Owens Corning provides composite and building materials systems. Company’s product range from glass fiber used to reinforce composite materials for transportation, electronics, marine, infrastructure, wind-energy and other high-performance markets to insulation and roofing for residential, commercial and industrial applications. Owens Corning operates through three business segments: Composites, Insulation, and Roofing.
Company’s composites segment consists of vertically integrated downstream activities. This segment manufactures, fabricates and sells glass reinforcements in the form of fiber. Insulation segment’s products in the residential channel include thermal and acoustical batts, loosefill insulation, foam sheathing and accessories, and are sold under well-recognized brand names and trademarks such as Owens Corning PINK FIBERGLAS Insulation. Its products in the commercial and industrial channel include glass fiber pipe insulation, energy efficient flexible duct media, bonded and granulated mineral wool insulation, cellular glass insulation and foam insulation used in above- and below-grade construction applications. Roofing segment provides laminate and strip asphalt roofing shingles. Its primary products include roofing components, synthetic packaging materials and oxidized asphalt.
For the fiscal year ended December 2017, company’s net sales increased by $707 million or 12.5% to $6.4 billion, as compared to 2016. Increase in net sales was driven by higher sales volumes in all three segments, as well as the acquisitions of Pittsburgh Corning into its Insulation segment and InterWrap into its roofing segment.
